Valuable Lessons I’ve Learned About Furniture

4 Things You Can Do to Make Your Home friendly for Kids

Whenever you have kids around, you can’t help but worry about what they are doing and their safety, mainly if you are not there with them. Kids care more about fun than safety, thus you cannot take any chances on their safety. If anything, it is you who will take care of damages and injuries when they mess up.

One of the items you can consider is the sofas. Kids love to play on sofas while in the house and they do not know how to keep them clean. They will spill drinks on them, drop food items and sit on them with dirty clothes, and step on them with dirty feet or shoes. No matter how many times you advise them otherwise, it always happens. To reduce your stress and make them comfortable at the same time, buy leather sofas of excellent quality that are strong and easy to clean. Or, choose slip covered couches that have fabric which is stain resistant for easy cleaning.

Another thing to specially consider is your coffee tables and cabinets. It is not a great idea to have sharp edged furniture in your home, mainly when you have tiny ones who are teaching themselves to walk. Sharp edged furniture is hazardous, very painful when a person runs themselves against its corners, and it can cause serious injuries. Instead, purchase round and oval shaped tables and have them cushioned if you can to make them dull, and cupboards with blunted edges. This minimizes the chances of injuries to your kids, especially when they get rough. Keep off cupboards because they can easily fall on your kids, but if you have to buy them, make sure they are very heavy and installed in rooms where kids do not frequent.

The kind of flooring you choose when you have kids around is also critical. The best kind of floor to invest in is the type that is slip resistant, easy to clean, and warm. Hardwood floors are easy to clean, but very slippery especially when one has socks on. Concrete floors can be cleaned easily too, but they get very cold sometimes. Try carpet tiles because they are easy to clean, slip resistant, and warm on the feet.

When you have kids at the crayons stage, your walls will be a source of stress. To maintain your sanity, coat your walls with a type of paint that is easy to clean in the rooms where they visit the most or install chalkboards on the walls to make everybody happy. Again, kids will always find ways to get on your nerves, regardless of the many times you warn them to do stuff. Be smart!
